baroque jewel today, with it's rich
culture and history, is
more like a proud and distinguished
suburb of Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state.

Olinda
are several small and very good pousadas (B&B's)
available, mostly in rebuilt colonial mansions.
To book a room, you simply need to stop by, check the
rooms and then decide whether or not to stay - the
search alone
is a scenic sight seeing! Don't be afraid of not finding
comfortable - and unique - accommodation - there is
plenty!
Most
tour operators offer hotels in Recife's beach district Boa
Viagem. Those are world class hotels on a world class beach.
But consider this: book a few nights as they are offered on
escorted tours, which nearly always stay in Boa Viagem, and
then prolong your stay on your own in Olinda. Escorted tours
generally also offer a half day sightseeing including Olinda,
so you would know your way. Olinda and Recife also are very
well connected by public transportation: a taxi ride would
be about US$30.
